What happens in an interview? Here’s what you can expect!

The interview process is part of every career journey.

When you register to work with Staff Australia, you will be asked to attend an interview with one of our recruitment consultants. As part of the recruitment process, your interview is where you can make an impact and establish a relationship with our talent team.

Treat the interview like a conversation. Before we start the conversation, your interviewer will look over your resume and highlight any relevant skills or experience that aligns with the jobs we are hiring for. We will also look over your induction paperwork.

Once ready, a face-to-face interview will be conducted in one of our dedicated interview rooms. If you cannot make it to a Staff Australia office, we may ask you to attend a virtual interview using Microsoft Teams or Zoom. However, for the most part, we are an in-person agency.

These are the types of questions you could be asked:

  1. Tell me about yourself, what brings you in today?
  2. What made you choose to work in (career/industry)?
  3. Why did you apply for this position with us?
  4. Why are you looking to leave your current role OR why did you leave your previous role?
  5. Do you have any additional skills or experience to disclose?
  6. What is your career plan? Will you be looking for temporary or permanent employment?
  7. How far are you willing to travel? (Minutes/Distance)
  8. What is your primary mode of transport?
  9. What pay rate do you expect? (Hourly/Salary)
  10. What hours are you willing to work? (Day/Afternoon/Night)

What else should you expect?

For some jobs, we may also request that you provide us with the following:

  • A White Card (Construction Training): If you plan to work in the construction, trade, or mining industry.
  • First Aid Training: If the role you applied for identifies this as a requirement.
  • A Working with Children Check: If you are employed in an industry that works with minors (those under the age of 18).
  • A Forklift Licence: if the role requires you to operate a forklift.
  • A Heavy Vehicle Drivers Licence: if the role requires you to operate a truck or heavy transport vehicle.

After the Interview

Once the interview has concluded, we will assess your answers and get in touch. If you are suitable for a current role, you may be offered a job assignment as soon as your paperwork has been processed, and the necessary checks have been completed. If this is the case, you will be asked to sign a contract so we can get you started!

If we do not have a current position available but your interview is successful, we will keep you listed on the job board and contact you as soon as a suitable role comes up.

If you are ever uncertain of the outcome or do not hear from us, we encourage you to call or email your local office. We want to support you in every way we can, we know the job search is stressful and do not want you to feel unsupported during this time.
