Position Summary: The primary focus of this position is to develop mechanical engineering for tender preparation, project specific design, specifications for procurement, support client and sub-supplier interactions, prepare and participate in design reviews and support during construction & commissioning in accordance to client specifications, Mining Acts and Australian Standards to achieve business objectives. This shall be achieved by way of a hands-on approach as well as detailed planning and prioritising of the assigned resources and oversight of those resources.

Key Responsibilities: Your role encompasses a diverse set of responsibilities, including but not limited to:

  • Assign the required works to the available resources and follow up against the schedule of the planned works.
  • Responsible for mechanical design calculations, and developing the detailed design of approved concepts under the direction of the Project Lead Engineer
  • Develop detailed layouts of the machines and/or mechanical equipment of machines in order to enable engineering of other disciplines (detail structural and electrical);
  • Carry out calculations required for selection of the mechanical equipment and inputs into structural and electrical engineering.
  • Produce a detailed scope of work and technical specifications for procurement of mechanical equipment.
  • Prepare, check, and review discipline related technical documentation.
  • Assist the Project Lead Engineer to liaise with client on technical issues related to the design.
  • Participate in project design audits & reviews to ensure design is to all relevant standards, specifications and provides a tightly integrated and professional solution.
  • Ensure compliance with Australian Standards
  • Ensure execution is to the client’s contract specification
  • Ensure interpretation of client’s specifications are according to the requirements
  • Provide discipline related support to the sales team in preparation of tenders where required.

Prepare and review execution strategies of the structural design for tender purposes including scheduling, resource planning and review requirements.

  • Prepare technical specifications in accordance with client documentation, relevant Australian Stands, and good engineering practise.
  • Review technical aspects of supplier’s quotations for mechanical equipment and participate in clarification process.
  • Assist with client liaison in technical meetings/discussions.
  • Participate in technical meetings/discussions with suppliers.
  • Support the clarification of technical aspects and follow-up during the manufacturing of the equipment
  • Provide technical support to the Project Lead Engineer during meetings with suppliers, subcontractors and clients.
  • Liaise with other responsible engineers on the purchase of stand-alone packages to ensure compatibility and appropriate integration.
  • Workshop Inspection and FAT testing of mechanical items.
  • Be proactive in identifying and rectifying issues at site by a site attendance or office-based support function.
  • Prepare, project documentation, manuals and other technical documentation required during project execution
  • Have ability to sign off on any structural review as required for handover certificates.
  • Follow-up technological/technical aspects during the erection.
  • Perform site-inspections as required.

Qualifications and Experience: To excel in this role, you should possess:

  • Mechanical Engineering Degree (Bachelor/Master).
  • Professional Engineer with Engineers Australia.
  • Preferred Registered Professional Engineer in Queensland (RPEQ).
  • Charted Professional Engineer.
  • Preferred location is Perth
  • Well-developed communication skills with ability to commit to meeting facilitation and team collaboration.
  • Extensive experience in a similar role in Bulk Material Handling, Mining or Process Design.
  • Mechanical Engineer for several Major Projects.
  • Hands on design approach for Mechanical equipment for machines and conveyors in the mining, bulk materials handling, and process design
